DOTHAN, Alabama, April 1, 2020: ?The Alabama Department of Insurance released a summary of COVID-19 coverage and additional benefits from several health insurance issuers. Beth Kenward with Healthcare Resource Center said, “Most insurance companies are trying hard to anticipate the needs of the senior community during this quarantine period due to the coronavirus. Some have implemented features like telemedicine, early refills on prescriptions, and even resources to help clients deal with stress and anxiety.”

People age 65 and older are at an increased risk for having complications from COVID-19 per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. For that reason, some insurance companies have opted to expand the types of benefits they offer. Many of these new offerings are at no additional cost to the insured.

The following features are available for seniors depending on their health insurance carriers:

• ?  Zero co-pay telemedicine visits - for any reason

• ?  Early refills extensions for 30 day medications

• ?  Care packages for those diagnosed with COVID-19

• ?  Home delivery of prescriptions

• ?  Non-emergency transportation for doctor visits

• ?  Waiving of out-of-pocket costs for COVID-19 testing

• ?  Coronavirus support line

• ?  24 hr helpline for anxiety or stress related to COVID-19

“We are glad to help any senior if they have questions about specific benefits or coverages relating to COVID-19. Things are changing so quickly during this time that some information can be difficult to understand. It’s a service I’m passionate about so we offer this to ALL seniors - not just our clients,” states Beth Kenward, founder of the Healthcare Resource Center.
