Holmes County Interstate Shooting Suspect in Custody

PONCE DE LEON – On April 8, 2024, Holmes County Communications received a call from a local motel stating that a black female told employees that she was God and was going on a shooting spree. Shortly after, reports were made to Washington County Communications that a subject on the interstate was shooting into other vehicles.



A trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol observed the suspect vehicle, a purple Dodge Challenger, exit the interstate in Ponce de Leon and enter the rest area. The vehicle then made a U-turn and attempted to get back on the interstate. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, and the suspect vehicle pulled over.




Holmes County Sheriff’s Office personnel arrived during the traffic stop and the suspect was taken into custody. Additional HCSO and WCSO investigators and deputies canvassed the area of I-10 between Bonifay and Ponce de Leon to locate and assist possible victims. Currently, there appear to be two victims. One has been cleared and released and the other is receiving medical attention.




Both shooting incidents occurred along I-10 in Washington County. This will remain an active, ongoing investigation until further notice, and any additional information will be released by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. As the sole suspect is in custody, there is no remaining threat to the community.




A huge shoutout to both HCSO and WCSO communications center dealing with this situation. They done an outstanding job.
