HOLMES COUNTY:A vital component of combating the presence of drugs in our community is understanding that behind every drug arrest is a story - a story of someone who has lost their way and a family that has been torn apart by addiction.


Sheriff John Tate’s focus on assisting those struggling with addiction to find lasting recovery is just one step in healing families and giving those stories a chance to have a happy ending. Arrest itself is not an ending. Instead, it can be a new beginning.



Each month, we share a story from individuals who have successfully completed a drug rehabilitative program through the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office and are now enjoying a new, fulfilled life of recovery.



Their journey. Their words. A message of hope for us all.

The January 2023 Spotlight on Recovery story comes from Steven Forehand.



My name is Steven Forehand.  I am 43 years old and I grew up in Westville Florida.   I am a single father and I have been addicted to methamphetmines for 22 years. 



I have wrestled back and forth through my addiction with a few sober years but nothing withstanding. No matter how hard I tried I would always fall back and relapse.



I was arrested in 2014 for meth and served a year sentence in county jail. I found Jesus during this time. And when I was released , the Lord blessed me with restoration with my family, custody of my daughter and a good job. I remained sober for a couple of years but never made Jesus the Lord of my life and slowly started using again which eventually led to be being arrested in December of 2021 for manufacturing of meth. 



After 5 months of fighting I was still facing a 7 year mandatory prison sentence. But God had a different plan. He opened a door for me to be able to come to Liberty Lodge Ministries. And God has used my time here at the Lodge to show me how selfish, prideful and destructive I really was.



Through my time here I have learned just how much I needed him.  He has taught me how to handle and deal with situations, my emotions and how to be comfortable with accountability.  Not only has he shown me things about myself. He has also shown me who he is. How wonderful and kind he is. How much that he loves and cares for me.  How faithful he is and how much I can trust him. He is restoring and rebuilding relationships in my life and has began the healing process for my family and I.



I am so thankful to God and to Liberty Lodge for where I am and all the blessings I have. I will be taking the tools I have learned here at the Lodge and going to walk them out. Starting in my own home with my own family. I will be surrounding myself with a safe environment. Getting plugged in with like minded people. Serving in my local church and community. And keeping myself open and willing to let God use me where he will.
