DOTHAN-HOUSTON COUNTY:   09:30 AM   Houston County School Supt. Brandy White and Dothan City Schools Supt. Dr. Dennis Coe held a combined press conference this morning concerning mask requirements.

Both Superintendents said, like most everyone else, they do not like the masks. But in watching the numbers of COVID cases, watching the numbers of COVID in system who do and do not wear masks, the numbers tell the story.

And based on that information, beginning August 27, 2021, both Houston County School System and Dothan City School Systems will ENFORCE MASK MANDATES ACROSS BOTH SCHOOL DISTRICTS, requiring Pre-K-12 students, staff, and visitors to wear masks while on the campuses and while inside the buildings.

Enterprise City Schools mandated masks day one. The Enterprise City School system and Houston County Schools compare in number of students. Each system has around 6,500 students. 

Since August 5, Enterprise City School system has recorded 191 COVID cases while Houston County Schools has recorded 381 COVID since August 6.

Enterprise City Schools has isolated NO STUDENTS while Houston County Schools has isolated 983 students and Dothan City Schools has isolated around 300 students.

Based on the numbers that Houston County School System has had to send home, that accumulates to 10,000 student days missed.

Both school system continue to monitor data from local, state and federal public health officials and review weekly the COVID numbers.

Both school systems regret having the issue the mandate. However it is their duty to do all possible to protect the school systems.

NOTE:    Both Houston County School Supt. Brandy White and Dothan City Schools Supt. Dr. Dennis Coe wore their mask except when speaking at the podium. Both both were distance apart from the speaker.
