Houston County Man gets Life for Robbing Ashford Bank

HOUSTON COUNTY: Houston County resident Sterling Lee Howell entered a guilty plea in April 29 in the 20th Judicial Circuit Court - Houston County before the Honorable Chris Richardson
Sterling Lee Howell was arrested by Houston County Sheriff Criminal Investigator Summerlin on May 3, 2022 for a armed robbery of the Midsouth Bank in Ashford.
The suspect went to the drive in window of the bank and committed the robbery.
Ashford Police and Houston County Sheriff Department responded with Houston County Sheriff Department taking the lead in the felony investigation.
Howell left with an undetermined amount of money. He was later apprehended following a brief stand off with Houston County Sheriff Department on Pleasant Grove Church Road just east of Ashford.
Following the guilty plea of Sterling Lee Howell, the Honorable Chris Richardson sentenced Sterling Lee Howell to life in the Alabama Department of Corrections.
Sterling Lee Howell is allowed to apply for parole so the sentence was not life without parole. But the chances for parole will be a looooooooong time away.
After 30 days it is expected Howell will be transferred from Houston County Jail to Kilby Prison in Montgomery.
