ASHFORD:   Tonight Incumbent Houston County School Superintendent David Sewell held a fish fry at the Ashford Depot for friends and supporters.


Sewell is challenged by Webb Junior High School Assistant Principal Brandy White for Superintendent of the Houston County Schools.


Sewell has been in the Houston County School System for more than 40 years. Sewell in his first term as Superintendent of the system.


Tonight around 150 plus came to the Ashford Depot to eat catfish and get to know David Sewell better.


ELECTION DATE  


The election date for Houston County School Superintendent and School Board Members is March 3. 


These races will be over on March 3, 2020. With only two candidates the one with the majority of votes will win.


WHO CAN VOTE IN THE HOUSTON COUNTY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT'S RACE  


The registered voters which live in the city limits of Dothan can not vote in the Houston County School Superintendent's race.


DOTHAN:    The City of Dothan has their own school system. The superintendent is appointed by the members of the School Board, who are elected. The residents of the City of Dothan vote in the School Board members of the Dothan School Board. But you must reside in the City of Dothan corporate city limits. In the Dothan City School Board system the School Board Members are elected every four years. The School Superintendent is appointed by the members of the School Board.


HOUSTON COUNTY:  The registered voters living outside the corporate city limits of Dothan, but live in the county, vote on the Houston County School Board members. Any registered voters who live in Houston County, and all municipalities in Houston County are allowed to seek office and be a member of the Houston County School Board.


But if you are not a resident of the City of Dothan but live in Houston County, and live in any municipality in the county ( Cowarts, Ashford, Webb, Kinsey, Columbia, Gordon, Cottonwood, Madrid, Rehobeth, Taylor ) and anywhere outside the city limits and in the unincorporated areas ) this is the race you vote in.


CHILDREN SCHOOL ATTENDANCE   The school system attempts to check but are not always able to check all residents. If you live inside the city limits of Dothan, you are required to send your children to the school system in Dothan and not in the county.


If you live in Houston County, or in any municipality other than Dothan, you are required by laws of the State of Alabama, and accountable, that your children attend the school in the county.


IF YOU LIVE IN DOTHAN CITY LIMITS - responsible for sending your children to Dothan City Schools.


IF YOU LIVE OUTSIDE THE CITY LIMITS OF DOTHAN, ANYWHERE, you are what makes up the county and responsible for sending your children to the schools in the county system.
