HUEY STEVEN “STEVE” KIRKLAND

 

COLUMBIA, AL… Huey Steven “Steve” Kirkland, a resident of Columbia, Alabama, passed away Sunday morning, May 28, 2023, at his home. He was 67.

 

          Funeral services will be held 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Wright Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel with Reverend Tom Chestnut and Dr. Perry Mobley officiating. Burial will follow in the Camp Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 P.M. prior to the service. Wright Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.

 

          Steve’s request was for everyone to come to his funeral, the Cowboy Way, in other words, “Casual”.

 

          Mr. Kirkland was born in Dothan, Alabama to the late Dorsey Kirkland and Mary Frances Whatley Kirkland. He lived in the Columbia, Alabama area his entire life. He was a true Cowboy in every sense. He loved his horses and team roping. His passion was teaching the youth of the surrounding area team roping. He was a member of the Camp Springs Baptist Church.

 

          Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Abby Kirkland; his sisters, Sondra Kirkland and Jane Edmondson.

 

          Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife, Kara Collins Kirkland; his daughter, Alexia Wise; his son, Jackson Kirkland; his mother-in-law, Wanda Tye (Chuck); his father-in-law, Tony Collins; his sister-in-law, Christy Stanford (Jason), his brother-in-law, Daniel Collins (Amy); his special cousin whom was like a brother, Mark Kirkland; his fur-baby, Bear; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

          Serving as active pallbearers will be Coleman McNaughton, Will Kirkland, Matthew McCraney, Matt Davis, Hunter VanScyoc, and Colby Chestnut.
