Dothan, AL - Birmingham-based nonprofit Impact America is pleased to announce annual free tax

preparation services are now available online or at drop-off locations throughout Alabama. Impact

America’s SaveFirst initiative is now providing free income tax preparation services to households making

up to $57,000/year in partnership with ASK Telemarketing, AmeriCorps, and Code For America.

Residents may choose to either file their taxes online through SaveFirst’s 100% virtual filing process, or

visit one of SaveFirst’s drop-off sites where an IRS-certified volunteer will intake their tax documents for

free. Interested individuals should visit impactamerica.com/freetaxprep or call 1-888-99-TAX-AL to

schedule an appointment or access virtual tax preparation services.

Even in times of social distancing and the COVID-19 pandemic, Impact America is committed to

providing quality IRS-Certified tax preparation to people in need, leading to the launch of SaveFirst

Online, a virtual tax prep service. Brief, low-contact appointments for taxpayers to drop off documents for

virtual preparation will also be provided at tax sites. Now more than ever, when many households across

the state have been affected by the Coronavirus outbreak, SaveFirst ensures hardworking families have

access to free tax preparation and receive the largest tax refund possible.

The tax preparation service is aimed at assisting families eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit

(EITC). The EITC is the federal government's largest and most successful anti-poverty program for

low-income, working families . However, each year, Alabama families lose millions of dollars to

commercial tax preparers simply to access this benefit.

Local partners include Wiregrass United Way 2-1-1 and Wallace Community College-Dothan. Impact

America's SaveFirst initiative is in its fourteenth year of operation. In 2020, AmeriCorps Members

serving with SaveFirst trained 324 volunteers who provided free tax preparation services to 10,581

families in Alabama, Tennessee, and South Carolina - helping them to claim over $18 million in refunds

and saving them more than $4 million in commercial tax preparation fees. Impact America is an

AmeriCorps Program.
