It Is Official - Dr. Edwards Resigned As Superintendent of Dothan City Schools - Interim Appointed

DOTHAN:     Tonight Dothan School Board Chairman Mike Schmitz and members of the Dothan School Board met.

The anticipation is over. Dothan School Superintendent Dr. Phyllis Edwards was not in attendance for the meeting however she tendered her resignation. This resignation, as far as I know, forfeited Edwards contract with Dothan City Schools.

The resignation was accepted by unanimous vote by Chairman Schmitz and members of the Dothan School Board.

Former Alabama Department of Education Staff Members and Former Henry County School Superintendent Dennis Coe has been appointed as Interim Superintendent for Dothan City Schools.

No official statements as to the reasoning of Edwards resignation. But according to sources, Dr. Edwards who is 69 years of age has been terrified since COVID struck. Edwards husband, of which some Dothan City School staff has met, has been described to me by some as one who has or had a number of medical issues. UNCONFIRMED but information is Mr. Edwards, older the Dr. Edwards age of 69, has had major operations, possibly for cancer.

Since COVID hit Dr. Edwards has worked remotely and worked from her Florida residence. Some in the school system have said, while unconfirmed, the residence she lived in Dothan is already vacant. Dr. Edwards has been terrified that she would contact COVID and pass to her husband or he would be exposed to COVID.

While Dr. Edwards had a responsibility to Dothan City Schools and should have resigned earlier, if in fact the information we have learned from within the system is accurate, those who have suffered COVID will agree and understand her feelings.

This information has come from sources within the Dothan City Schools and not from members of the Dothan School Board.

As we further understand from people within the Dothan City Schools, members of the Dothan School Board, the Chairman of the Dothan School Board and administrators within the system became increasingly frustrated over Dr. Edwards remote management. As time passed Dr. Edwards became further distant. And that resulted in things coming to a head.

COVID IS REAL  

Ask Dothan Fire Chief Larry Williams if COVID is real? Chief Williams has fought it even to the point it placed him in the hospital.

Ask the family of the late Patti Johnson. A healthy lady who was very active in Rehobeth School, her church, who COVID took her life.

So we can understand the fears of Dr. Edwards and the protection of her husband, if in fact our information is accurate. And we believe our information is accurate based on earlier information months ago.

You know, Dr. Edwards, age 69 and Mr. Edwards have one chance at life. There are no chances to hit PAUSE - REWIND - and PLAY for a second chance on your health. We can understand the fear.

We also understand people handle fears differently. But if the information is accurate, there is zero blame on Dr. Edwards for taking care of the love of her life first. However, she had a responsibility to the Chairman of the Dothan School Board, the men and women who serve on the Dothan School Board, the faculty and staff of Dothan City Schools and most important the students.

But that chapter is closed. And Dennis Coe, it is now your time to grab the reigns, take control and GO...GO....GO...
