On 11-13-19 at approximately 10:43 a.m. The Uniform Patrol Division of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a physical disturbance at Malloy Shopping Plaza near Wal-mart. During the course of the investigation Deputies learned that Anthony Aaron Sawyer attempted to conceal a pair of sneakers in his pants and a pair of boots under his jacket. When confronted by the store manager Sawyer attempted to push past her causing one of the boots to fall from his jacket. When the manager reached to retrieve it, Sawyer attempted to kick her. Sawyer then tried to take the boot from the manager and attempted to hit her in the face. At that point the second boot fell out of his clothing. Sawyer grabbed it and threw it at the manager’s head. The female manager fell to the ground during the scuffle. She obtained minor scratches and bruises but did not require medical attention. Sawyer fled on foot and locked himself in the Tyndall Federal Credit Union bathroom. He was detained by two Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and turned over to the Sheriff’s Office. When the Troopers searched Sawyer they discovered a medical syringe and a glass pipe commonly used to ingest methamphetamines. Sawyer began acting strangely after being placed in the patrol vehicle. When the door was opened to check on him, he stated that he had “taken a handful of pain pills and a handful of Xanax.” It is believed that Sawyer did so to avoid being charged with the medications that he was illegally in possession of. Once he was medically cleared, Sawyer was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance. He was charged with Retail Theft, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Assault, and Tampering with Evidence.
