?Geneva County High School? made county and school history yesterday as senior basketball star KAROLINE STRIPLIN was presented with the Alabama MISS BASKETBALL ? award. The award recipient is chosen by the Alabama Sports Writers Association, and it’s sponsored by Alfa. Karoline was chosen as this year’s MISS BASKETBALL from thousands of high school players in 1A-7A. The award means she is the best female high school basketball player in the state! We are thankful for her and what she has meant to the basketball program at Geneva County High School. Karoline has signed a scholarship to play women’s basketball at the University of Tennessee. ???

Congratulations, Karoline! We know you will be successful as you continue your basketball career and education!

CHAMPION...

Her name is Karoline Striplin and she plays basketball for Geneva County High School in Hartford. I’ve watched her grow up from a distance. There were not enough minutes in my moments for me to visit with her often. She is already a star among high school basketball fans. Soon, she will be nationally known. The stars are aligned for her and she is willing to pay the price to be better at something than anyone else.

She came by this ferocious appetite to excel from her mother and dad. Both parents have competition etched in their DNA.
Karie, her mother, was an extraordinary high school and college athlete and excelled in multiple sports. Her father, Jim Bob was a high school football star and played at Auburn. Both parents are high school coaches. Karie coached a state champion basketball team(they won) and Karoline was voted most valuable player.

The formula for success was always there...I noticed it years ago. The parents opened the door, but Karoline had to walk through. After gazing at the gate entrance a season, she decided to go for the glory.... she never looked back. She is as “locked in” and focused as anyone could be.

Karoline’s grandparents are Karen and Larry Williams of Newton. Larry is my first cousin, so I get to claim kin. What an honor to watch an absolutely great young lady, who is blessed with an enormous talent and work ethic, excel in the sport she loves. She has been voted the best basketball player in the entire state...that includes every level of play from Birmingham to Smut-Eye.

Tennessee was smart and offered her a scholarship in her junior year. She accepted it with the grace and humility as she does all things.

Greatness is upon her...She will meet it in full stride. And I’ll be rooting for her every step of the way!
