KINSEY: The Kinsey Town Council met tonight in a regular scheduled meeting. The Mayor of Kinsey, Charles Douglas, was not present. Mayor Pro Tem Joe Watson said the Mayor was sick, again, so Mayor Pro Tem Watson ran the meeting.
WOW... the meeting was chaos.
A lot discussion about the policy the Kinsey Town Council passed last meeting. The policy passed was no one could drive a vehicle more than 10 miles outside the city limits. Then Kinsey Mayor Charles Douglas stopped all city employees from driving their Kinsey owned vehicles home.
That decision by Mayor Douglas has caused some controversy. The Interim Kinsey Police Chief, Willie Powell, resides in Daleville. The Kinsey Police Officer, Robert Jones, lives 8/10 of 1 mile from the Kinsey City Limits. Jones responds to call and with no Kinsey Police Officer driving their car home there is no one to investigate motor vehicle accidents.
RSN broke that ALEA Colonel Charles Ward was contacted by someone from Kinsey asking ALEA - Troopers to work the wrecks because they were undergoing changes within the Police Department. RSN placed the blame for that call on Kinsey Councilman Joe Watson. Tonight Watson denied making that phone call.
Watson instructed the Kinsey Town Clerk to call the Alabama League of Municipalities to get clarification if the Mayor has the authority to amend the policy passed by the Town Council. Watson said he thought the Mayor has the authority to amend the policy to include others.
The Council Members discussed and listened to the public concerning some stop sign issues.
The Council Members went into Executive Session with their attorney, Press Register. Following the Executive Session, a motion was made to publish the agreed upon procedures for an audit that was conducted. That motion passed.
The Council Members made a motion to authorize the attorney, Press Register, to request a criminal investigation into findings from the audit. One member abstained and the motion passed.
The Council Members made a motion to letter the Water Department truck with the Town of Kinsey logo and Water Department on the side. That motion passed.
A Council Member made the motion to terminate Interim Police Chief Willie Powell and make Officer Robert Jones Police Chief for Kinsey. The motion died for lack of a second.
MEETING ADJOURNED - MAYOR CANDIDATES ASKED ABOUT DEBATE
Following the meeting RSN got the two Mayor candidates and asked if they would agree to a debate prior to the October 6 run off. Both agreed and that is being set up.
