KINSEY, Ala. (WDHN) — Many Kinsey residents and Wiregrass landmarks are celebrating after the town’s Planning and Zoning Board did not recommend bringing a garbage transfer station to town.

After no motion was made to rezone 5392 Headland Avenue, the request failed.

Throughout the meeting, several residents spoke against the transfer station citing smelliness, an increased amount of traffic and the degradation of the town itself.

Residents weren’t the only ones voicing their opposition; leaders from Dothan’s Botanical Gardens and Landmark Park also made their opinions known.

“We consider it a slap in the face,” said Dothan Area Botanical Garden Executive Director William Holman. “Having a garbage transfer station near us is going to absolutely wreck our outdoor rental business and probably visitation too.”
