Lee County : Domestic Disturbance Incident Response

AT approximately 11:21 am cdst on August 4, 2020 the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a domestic disturbance involving two brothers at a residence on Lee Road 147 south of Opelika near the Beauregard community.
A responding deputy arrived at the scene and observed two adult males fighting on the ground. One of the males had a knife and the deputy verbally commanded them to cease fighting. The two continued to fight and the deputy deployed a Taser which did not impact either subject.
AT this point , one subject gained advantage with the knife and attempted to stab the other. The deputy discharged one round from a service weapon toward the armed subject.
The armed subject was not hit and dropped the knife. Both subjects became compliant and were taken into custody without further incident.
As a result of the fight, both subjects had sustained minor lacerations and were treated at the scene by emergency medical responders. A witness was present at the scene and an investigation by sheriff’s investigators assisted by detectives with the Opelika Police Department has been initiated in regard to the discharge of a firearm by a deputy sheriff.
