Malone Homicide Suspect Arrested

JACKSON COUNTY, FL - On December 31, 2020, at approximately 1:00 AM the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call in reference to shots being fired and a male subject injured on 10th Avenue in Malone, Florida. Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputies and Jackson County Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival they found a male victim laying in a front yard with no signs of life. Jackson County Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced the male subject deceased.
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to the scene. Florida Department of Law Enforcement were also called to assist in the investigation.
In the hours immediately following the incident, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division conducted numerous interviews and executed several search warrants in reference to this case.
It was also learned the suspect in the case had possibly fled to Illinois. CID investigators confirmed this fact and were able to work with local authorities to obtain additional information.
On January 7, 2022, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division developed probable cause to charge Charles Edward Peterson Jr. with Murder.
The warrant for Charles Edward Peterson Jr. was adopted by the U.S. Marshals Florida/ Caribbean Regional Fugitive Task Force in an effort to take him into immediate custody.
On January 11, 2022, Charles Edward Peterson Jr was arrested in Coles County Illinois by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force without incident.
Sheriff Edenfield would like to personally thank the citizens of Jackson County that came forward and assisted in this investigation. Without their help, this arrest would prove to be much more difficult. Sheriff Edenfield would also like to thank the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division and the Criminal Investigation Division for their hard work and dedication in bringing this case to a swift resolution and giving a grieving family closure. No act of violence will be tolerated in our Great County!
