Marianna, FL Man Arrest for Active Felony Warrant

On April 1st, 2020 at approximately 11:00am Investigators with the Marianna Police Department had knowledge of the whereabouts of Michael James. James was known to have an active felony warrant that was applied for by the Marianna Police Department for shooting into an occupied structure.
Investigators and Officers surrounded the area of Milton Avenue and Harrison Street in an attempt to arrest James on the warrant. James was observed in the driver’s seat of a Nissan passenger vehicle in the yard.
At the time James was surrounded by the Marianna Police Department, James put the vehicle in drive and began to flee. James struck a parked vehicle and an awning in his attempt to flee. An officer on scene had to take evasive action to keep from being struck by James as he exited the yard and began to flee down Harrison Street. Marked patrol units in the area were able to pursue James down Old Cottondale Road.
During the vehicle pursuit, James disregarded the safety of any citizen in the area. James was travelling at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour. James continued to Orange Street, then to Hannah Street where he exited the vehicle prior to the vehicle stopping. James then fled in a wooded area near Hannah Street. The vehicle continued straight and crashed into a light pole on Hannah Street. During an inventory of the vehicle, officers located a straw, which was found to contain Cocaine residue.
Officers surrounded the area and were able to locate James hiding in the wooded area. James was taken into custody without incident. James was transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance. James is being charged
