Marianna Police Make Arrest In Wreck Case

On Wednesday, November 24, 2021, at approximately 10:08 PM, officers with the Marianna Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a blue in color Ford Excursion for faulty equipment. Shortly after initiating the stop, the vehicle accelerated and began traveling at a high rate of speed, leading officers on a short pursuit. The pursuit was canceled for the safety of the public and inaccordance with Departmental Policy. Officers lost sight of the vehicle in the area of Daniels Street and Liddon Streetbut continued to patrol in the area in attempt to locate it.
A short time later officers located a vehicle collision involving this vehicle and another vehicle at the intersection of River Forest Road and Jefferson Street. The driver of the Excursion was not present at the scene uponarrival. The driver of the second vehicle was injured and transported by Jackson Hospital for treatment of non lifethreatening injuries.
Jackson Correctional Institute and Apalachee Correctional Institute K-9 Teams were contacted to assist in the apprehension of the driver. The K-9 teams were able to locate a scent track near the vehicle which led to a heavily wooded area. The track continued several hundred yards where the suspect was located. The suspect was taken in to custody and transported to the Jackson County Correctional Facility to await first appearance.
