MIDLAND CITY:     The Midland City Council, Mayor, Police and Fire Chief met in a special called Midland City Council Meeting on Friday.

The special called meeting was with Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson, Dale County Sheriff Chief Deputy Mason Bynum, Ozark - Dale County 911 Director Paula Simmons, Ozark - Dale County 911 Board Chairman and Dale County Commissioner Frankie Wilson and Dale County Commissioner Chic Gary.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Midland City Police and Midland City Fire coming under the Ozark - Dale County 911, and operating on the same radio system/channel as Dale County Sheriff Department.

After much discussion, examples of how the interagency operation enhances the safety of the citizens of Midland City, the law enforcement, fire and EMS, the council voted to enter into negotians with Ozark - Dale County 911.

Currently Midland City dispatches only for Midland City Police and Midland City Fire. That brings a cost of about $ 150,000.00 annually. The estimated cost for Ozark - Dale County 911 to dispatch for Midland City is in the neighborhood of $ 45,000 to $ 50,000 a year. This would save Midland City about $ 100,000.00 a year.

The radio system will be upgraded to Motorola P25, the same as the City of Dothan. Coming under the Ozark - Dale County 911 is a positive move that will make sure citizens and officers are safer because each agency will work better when they are operating on the same systems.

A great positive move by the Midland City Town Council and Mayor, Midland City Police Chief and Midland City Fire Chief.

While it has not taken place as of date, the moves today are positive steps.

Currently Ozark - Dale County 911 dispatches for everyone but Daleville. Every law enforcement agency in Dale County other than Daleville and Ozark operate on the same radio channel.

Ozark - Dale County 911 has the ability to cross patch Ozark Police and Dale County Sheriff Department onto one radio channel when something occurs they need to communicate. But routine monitoring by the officers between Ozark Police and Dale County Sheriff Department does not happen. However the dispatchers for both agencies are in the same rooms, side by side, with no walls between them. So the dispatchers are on top of what is happening and will open the patch of agencies together when needed.

HATS OFF to Midland City Council and Mayor.
