Morning House Fire in Geneva calls for Multi-Unit Response

Geneva – Around 10:45 this morning 34 Central, Geneva Communications, dispatched Geneva Fire and Rescue along with multiple other departments to a house fire on North Morris St. Upon arrival of Geneva Fire they were meet with heavy fire in the overhead of the home. Working with minimal manpower as does most volunteer departments, specially during the day time hours, Geneva received assistance from Black, Bellwood, Coffee Springs and Samson fire departments. All residence were able to escape the fire safely. The owner of the home stated it was built in the 1930s. The roof began to collapse with lots of the fire being in the overhead. The cause of the fire is undetermined, however the home owner stated he first noticed the fire located above the breaker box in the hallway. There is no injuries reported in this incident. Red Cross was on scene assisting firefighter with drink and to assist the family.

A special thank you to Firefighter Nathan Payton from Black Fire Department. The owner of the residence ask for his personal paperwork that included birth certificates, tax documents and other important file to be removed from the front bed room because it was in a book bag. He was told that was not important and he would just have to wait. With water draining from the ceiling down into that room and after asking Firefighter Thomas he gladly entered the home and removed these documents so they would not get any more ruined. This act alone changed the entire outlook for this man as his home burnt. Thank you Daniel Thomas!
