Danny Allen Exum, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 70. Born on July 17, 1953, in Houston County, Danny spent his lifetime sowing seeds of kindness and cultivating a legacy of love that would flourish for generations.

Danny was the cherished son of Kathleen Exum and the late Dorman A. Exum and grew up alongside his siblings, Wanda Exum Singleton (Chris), Linda Exum Turvin and the late Mickey Wayne Exum. His life was further blessed with a loving family that included his son, Mickey Wayne Exum (Brandy), daughters Stephanie Exum Carpenter (Neil) and Erin Exum Sloan (Tyler), as well as his sons of the heart, Brent Golden and Jeffrey Golden. The joy of his life was multiplied by his nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who will carry forward the values he so dearly upheld. His home was a haven of hospitality, with family gatherings that were warmed by his kind and loving nature. His special buddies, Izzy Gouge and Brody Martin, along with several special nieces, nephews, and cousins, were often found at his side, sharing in laughter and life’s simple pleasures. Steele, his faithful companion, was never far from his heels, a testament to Danny’s unwavering loyalty and companionship.

For over two decades, Danny devoted his labor and skills to the Houston County Road and Bridge, from where he retired after more than 23 years of dedicated service. His love for the land and his community was evident in the way he farmed most of his life, nurturing the soil and the soul of the county he called home. After retirement, he continued to serve his community by driving a bus for Houston County, ensuring the safe passage of many students to their destinations.

Danny’s life was characterized by his generosity and his big, generous heart. His hands, always ready to help others, were as familiar with the grip of a steering wheel as they were with the soil of his farm. His love for farming was matched only by his passion for fishing, where he found peace on the waters, and for tractors, which were both his tools and his treasures.

Generous, kind, and loving—these words best describe Danny, a man whose heart was as expansive as the Alabama sky under which he lived. His legacy is one of selflessness and service, a narrative written in the lives he touched.

As Danny’s sun sets on a life well-lived, we remember a man whose existence was a testament to the enduring power of love and the strength of the human spirit. His memory will continue to inspire and guide us, as we walk the paths he once tread, striving to live up to the example he set.

Danny Allen Exum will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will forever remain a beacon of hope and kindness in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have shared in the harvest of his life.

Funeral services for Danny will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 from the chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Tate officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 5 PM until 7 PM, Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at Ward Wilson Funeral Home.

Danny wouldn’t want anything fancy, so dress casual and come as you are.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Jeff Strickland, Michael Martin, Todd Deese, Sammy Roney, Jimmy McCall, and Derrick Mallory.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Russell Lee, Robert Lee, Jody Harper, Refugio Robles and Lemon Holland.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Southern Hospice, the 7^th floor nurses at Southeast Health, and Danny’s Internal Medicine team.
