OKALOOSEA COUNTY:When a life is taken in a violent act, there are always additional victims left to cope with the devastating loss.

With Kelly’s permission, we wanted to share this moving tribute to the victim of last week’s fatal shooting during a carjacking south of Crestview.

We also want to echo Kelly’s gratitude for all who shared information and called in tips in an effort to catch the person responsible.

We know the words of compassion and prayers for recovery that so many are expressing to Kelly in response to her post will bring her some comfort and strength.

Rest in Peace Pops.

I have refrained from speaking publicly about the heinous nature of this crime due to the ongoing investigation, but, I would like to personally thank all LEOs and the citizens of Crestview and both Walton and Escambia county who assisted in the investigation and apprehension of the people or persons involved in the murder of my Pops. Without your tips and help, the suspect may have harmed or injured others, so for this I am forever grateful. May God bless each and everyone of you!

Pops, was not my real father, but my ex’s father who also suddenly passed away last year in May. Pops and I were still dealing with and struggling with this, when this tragedy occurred this past Saturday.

At the time of His sons death, I was living here in Crestview as I had separated from his son. They both however where in NY and at the time of his son’s death, Pops had nowhere to go and no one to look after him and care for him. We decided for him to move down to Florida so we could look out for each other. So I flew to NY, and moved Pops and my fur babies down here to Crestview, Fl.

Frank Doerwald Sr, aka Pops was an 80 year old sweet, innocent, gentleman who would have gladly given this vile individual the truck, had he just asked!! This was completely unnecessary and unwarranted and for those who think that somehow this sweet dear soul deserved this, YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG! He was a God fearing, kind, helpful loyal friend. My best bud and the best grandpa my fur babies could ask for!!!

Now POPs has been taken away from me and our family at the hands of the truly evil person. I wished now that I never decided to get him the truck or ever brought him here; he may still have been alive had all this not happened. I’m completely devastated by all this.

I’m struggling now and can not quite grasp why someone would harm an innocent elderly man who enjoyed going to McDonalds for his recently discovered iced coffees and $2 cheeseburgers. Pops had his nearly daily routine were he would grab his lunch and go to the park and eat it and chit chat with whoever would give him the time of day. It was his way of unwinding and recharging his mind and soul. He was just the type of guy a sweet, kind, friendly old man that didn’t have much. He was one of my best friends and I at a complete loss without him.

Unfortunately, this is what ended his life and took my dear sweet friend, my Pops away from me. My fur babies are at a loss too right now and will not enter his bedroom. I’m sure they realize by now that their Pop pop is not coming home.

May God bless all law enforcement officers and the other agencies involved, the teenagers who thankfully were unharmed, their families, and God, please have mercy on all of us.

Rest In Peace Pops. Myself, Kai and Meiko miss you terribly
