Investigators with the Panama City Police Department have charged a 14-year-old with attempted murder following a drug deal gone bad Thursday evening.
During the course of the evening hours on Feb. 25, 2021, investigators say that Elijia Zimmerman, 14-year-old white male, was involved in a failed drug transaction during which Zimmerman snatched a cellular phone from another subject.
Zimmerman and the other subject agreed to meet regarding the cell phone, but when the other party arrived near Oakland Terrace Park, investigators say Zimmerman fired several rounds from a firearm into the vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by several persons, but no one was struck or injured,
Detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene, collecting evidence and conducting numerous interviews. Zimmerman was identified as the suspect and taken into custody at his home without incident.
Zimmerman is charged with robbery by sudden snatching, shooting into an occupied vehicle and attempted murder with a firearm.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
