Plant Farley to test outdoor sirens Dec. 10
WHAT: The outdoor sirens in the 10-mile radius around Alabama Power’s Plant Farley will be activated as part of an annual test to ensure residents around the site are aware of the sounds and messages that may be heard in the unlikely event of an emergency at the site.
Residents may receive a CodeRed notification on their home and/or mobile phone about the siren test. To sign up for CodeRed, residents are asked to contact their local county emergency management agency to register to receive alerts. Early County residents can register at http://earlycountysheriff.com/code-red.html. Houston County residents can register by calling the Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Agency at 334-836-7059.
WHEN: Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2019, at noon CT
WHERE: The sirens surround a 10-mile radius of Alabama Power’s Plant Farley.
WHY: This annual, planned test is part of a requirement to ensure the public is aware of the notification process in the event of an emergency declaration at Plant Farley.
WHO: The siren test is a collaboration of the following:
Alabama: Alabama Power, Southern Nuclear, Alabama Emergency Management Agency, Dothan Houston County Emergency Management Agency and the Henry County Emergency Management Agency
Georgia: Georgia Emergency Management Agency and the Blakely Early County Emergency Management Agency
