This is the first heads-up email on the potential for tropical development in the Gulf of Mexico.
The potential for a tropical or subtropical system forming in the western or central Gulf of Mexico has increased to 50 percent per NHC. This system is expected to move generally northeastward through the end of the week with impacts possible over the weekend.
Regardless of development, there is the potential for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across the area centered on Friday Night through Sunday, in addition to elevated winds/seas, and rip currents. We’re also monitoring the threat for tornadoes but the details on this threat are still too early to determine.
Lastly, there will be a threat for minor to moderate coastal flooding across our coastlines.
