Bottom Line:
A tropical system near the Turks and Caicos Islands and southern Bahamas could potentially develop into a tropical cyclone in the eastern Gulf of Mexico by this weekend.
Overview:
Attached is the 8 PM EDT tropical weather outlook from the National Hurricane Center. It shows a 40% chance that a tropical cyclone will develop over the eastern Gulf of Mexico late in the week or this weekend. This represents an increase in likelihood over previous outlooks.
It is far too early to discuss any specific impacts beyond increasing chances for showers and thunderstorms and possibly increased surf and rip current risks along the beaches as we move into the weekend and into the early part of next week.
