TO BE DECIDED:     Ozark Mayor Bob Bunting had been working on landing the Veterans Home for the City of Ozark. The Mayor had been working hard on hit.

The facility will be 182,000 square feet, house up to 175 veterans, employee about 250 individuals and cost about $65 million.

The Houston County Commission discussed it months ago in their Administrative Meeting held on Thursday before their regular meeting. It was discussed how Houston County needed to support Ozark's efforts in the Administrative Meeting. When it is not landed in Dothan or Houston County the buzz word is "regionalism".

That was printed in the local newspaper. Mayor Bunting was surprised and showed up at the Monday regular meeting of the Houston County Commission. Someone greeted him before the meeting and said, well, we are not going to offer support.

Following the press on what Houston County was about to do, the Commissioners learned, WAIT...The facility will be 182,000 square feet, house up to 175 veterans, employee about 250 individuals and cost about $65 million. And Ozark is not a done deal.

Ozark Mayor Bob Bunting left puzzled and what had happen. And what had happened is Mayor Bunting, excited about what progress the City of Ozark was making in landing the VA Clinic, had released a lot of information to the local newspaper in Ozark. Other municipalities and counties had now learned about it.

Over night Ozark had just about every municipality and county in this area putting together proposals for the VA Clinic. A dog eat dog fight between everyone. Suddenly Ozark went from a "great" chance to, well if we can out offer everyone else.

And believe me or not, a lot of smart people ( Mayor Bunting is brilliant so I am not saying anything to down him or discredit him ) have been playing every angle possible and teaming with other big boys in the game of business, to say VA "pick me" - "pick me".

The proposals are due today. After about 90 days of review the the VA will announce the top 3 locations. Then another major fight will go, this fight there will be worse then the wild west days.

Proposals submitted. Who all submitted. Well I know for sure Ozark, Eufaula, heard Enterprise. Been really quiet in Dothan and Houston County so perhaps through the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce one was submitted.

After 90 days perhaps we will know the 3 left standing.
