DOTHAN:      There has been a protest this afternoon on West Main and Woodburn against the mandate of United States President Joe Biden’s vaccination order.

The Governor of Texas,Greg Abbot, banned mandatory vaccination in the State of Texas. Governor Abbot’s order issued banning all organizations,  including private companies, from enforcing vaccinations in Texas.

In Florida, Governor Ron DeSantis’ administration is asking Leon County to pay $ 3.75 million because it imposed a COVID-19 vaccine mandate despite the state’s “vaccine passport”. Under Florida law , entities that ask for proof of COVID - 19  vaccinations - including businesses, local governments and educational institutions are subject to a $ 5,000.00 fine per violation.

On September 10, 2021 Alabama Governor Kay Ivey fired back at President Joe Biden’s federal vaccine mandate.Governor Ivey called it “outrageous” and “overreaching”. Ivey was quoted saying “ I support the science and encourage folks taking the vaccine. However, I am absolutely against a government mandate on the vaccine, which is why I signed the vaccine passport ban into law here in Alabama. This is not the role of the government.”

Alabama Attorney General State Marshall on October 12, 2021 said “vaccine mandates are having an undeniably negative impact on freedom of individuals, on Alabama’s workforce and on our free market system. The people of Alabama need to know that their government is not ignoring their calls for help. Rest assured, my office is working tirelessly to deal with these heavy-handed mandates and to ensure that our state is well-positioned to succeed in this fight”.

The peaceful protest is because the medical workforce fears they are about to be forced to take the vaccine, which they feel is their choice and should not be an employer’s mandate or a government mandate.

The medical workforce has also been the one’s on the frontline and just now they are being given mandates some do not agree with.

THERE IS NO DOUBT I DO NOT TRUST RICK SUTTON,

CEO OF SOUTHEAST HEALTH AND THINK HE

NEEDS TOBE RUN OUT OF DOTHAN, BUT ...

While this protest is at Flowers Hospital, the CEO of both Flowers Hospital and Southeast Health have no no choice but to implement measure mandated by the President of the United States or lose federal dollars and face penalties.

Just yesterday Flowers Hospital management said that “Flowers Hospital has not made the COVID-19 vaccine mandatory. Flowers Hospital requires the masking of all providers and individuals in a healthcare setting. A majority of Flowers Hospital caregivers have chosen - and some are continuing to choose to be vaccinated. To ensure the safety of Flowers Hospital patients, colleagues and others, last month Flowers Hospital began routine COVID19 testing of ll unvaccinated  hospital and clinic staff. Flowers Hospital will work to comply with the President’s order requiring COVID-19 vaccination for healthcare workers and are awaiting further guidance from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services ( CMS ) about it’s implementation.”

My question was “mandate to take vaccine or get fired”. You saw the answer above.

To one of those in the protest they feel it is swiftly on it’s way or unpaid leave of absence for those who have not taken the vaccine to include Flowers Hospital and Lyster Army Hospital at Ft. Rucker.

And they could be telling the truth. However it is above the CEO of the hospital’s head, in my opinion. They have no choice but to comply with the directive of the President of the United States or lose federal dollars. And without the federal dollars they can not operate.

So the responsibility rests on the leaders of the State of Alabama. That is difficult because I am not sure the State of Alabama or locally we have leaders who have backbones and know how to get anything done.

1. The City of Dothan needs an immediate proclamation on this issue.

2. Houston County needs an immediate proclamation on this issue.

3. The local legislative delegation needs a proclamation on this issue.

4. The federal Alabama legislative delegation needs a proclamation on this issue.

5. The Governor of Alabama needs a stand with teeth in it and not mere words like the Governor's of Florida and Texas.

6. And we need an Attorney General of the State of Alabama who is not dumb as dirt to do something and be able to get it done. So far Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall has not proven he can get anything done.

Government is not trusted and they have earned that right with a proven track record they can not be trusted.

THANK YOU to the healthcare workers for your stand.

But Governor Kay Ivey and Attorney General Steve Marshall and those elected locally for state and federal, it is your time to take a stand.
