On September 09, 2019 at 6:41pm, the Marianna Police Department received an anonymous call from a concerned citizen about an interaction between a Winn Dixie employee and a black male concerning a shoplifting offense. A description of the suspect was relayed to Patrol Officers who located the Subject in close proximity to Winn Dixie and identified him as Cecil Highsmith.
Another Officer made contact with Winn Dixie Management. During the investigation it was determined that Highsmith had entered the Winn Dixie and placed a large amount of grocery items and beer into a shopping cart and left the store without paying for the merchandise. When confronted by management, Highsmith discarded the cart in the parking lot and ran away on foot.
An inventory of the shopping cart revealed $576.64 worth of steak, shrimp, crab legs, beer and miscellaneous other food items.
Highsmith was charged with retail theft and resisting a merchant without violence and booked into the Jackson County Correction Facility to await first appearance.
Chief Baggett urges the citizens of Marianna to report suspicious behavior and activities to the Marianna Police Department at 850-526-3125.
Arrestee: Cecil Highsmith
Charges: Retail theft and Resisting a Merchant without Violence.
