A retired Blount County teacher was convicted Tuesday in the shooting death of her husband in their bedroom more than three years ago.

After a week-long trial, the jury deliberated for just 25 minutes before finding 63-year-old Bobbie Green Holaway guilty of murder in the slaying of Jerry Holaway. The shooting happened June 10, 2016. Blount County sheriff’s deputies responded about 8:45 p.m. that Friday to the couple’s home on Alabama 79 in Blountsville.

Authorities said Bobbie Holaway, a former Blountsville elementary school teacher, called 911 to report she had shot her husband. When lawmen arrived on the scene, Jerry Holaway was dead from gunshot wounds to the face and the chest. The couple had been married for about 35 years.
