DOTHAN:       Last week there was a meeting with the Downtown Dothan businesses and property owners hosted by Dothan Assistant City Manager Randy Morris and Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper.

And I must say that I was very impressed, excited and actually thrilled about where they have Dothan, specifically Downtown Dothan headed.

Kevin Cowper was appointed Dothan City Manager on March 19, 2019. He actually was on board and in his job on April 29, 2019.

Kevin Cowper came to Dothan from Auburn where he was Assistant City Manager. In his role he was charged with overseeing downtown redevelopment and was tasked with preparing a growth management strategy.

Kevin Cowper is a quiet man. You have to really look to see if he is there. He listens. He will not beat his chest saying look what I have done or accomplished. He just works hard each day to make Dothan better.

Dothan Assistant City Manager Randy Morris presented detailed drawing and discussed a lot of the details about the plans for Downtown Dothan. And let me tell you, there are some outstanding ideas that are making Dothan a destination for people to come to.

You will be able to stand on North Foster Street and look all of the way to the Museum. Places for entertainment with ample seating room. Some great park areas for downtown family atmosphere and gatherings.

Downtown Dothan will be a destination when family visits you will want to bring them into Downtown and brag about “our” downtown.

There will be a nice downtown motel with a parking deck. A innovation center and museum with very inviting space.

There will be job opportunities, great job opportunities for our children which leave Dothan for education that they will want to return to Dothan to work, live and raise their families.

To much to write about in one writing. But a lot of excitement.

RIGHT PEOPLE – RIGHT PLACE – RIGHT TIME

It was three years ago when Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper first unveiled this project and LOVE DOTHAN.

To accomplish this gigantic undertaking to bring Dothan into the future, it takes a large public/private partnership.

In three years, the team has raised $ 61 million dollars from various public/private partnerships to make Downtown Dothan a destination. The projects are underway.

We are at the right people-right place – right time.

And under the leadership of Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper who is assisted by Assistant Dothan City Manager Randy Morris the progress is being made. And some of these plans date back to when Pat Thomas served as Mayor of Dothan.

There are a lot of good job business re-locations the City of Dothan and Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce are working on.

KEVIN COWPER – DOTHAN CITY MANAGER

I have had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Cowper several times. And I will set a person in power up in a hurry to see how they react. And I did with Kevin Cowper.

The set up was over a request for some documents. Not one time did Kevin Cowper stone wall, delay, or attempt to charge a large price. Kevin Cowper provided them in a timely manner and did not withhold anything. In addition took the time to answer any questions.

That has NEVER HAPPENED before. He was very open, honest and direct in his answers. A welcome change.

CONTRACT RENEWAL

Let me say that Kevin Cowper has never given my anything other than what was mentioned above. And I had to pay for it.

And normally I find something a little questionable the ones in power are doing. But since Kevin Cowper has come on board, I have nothing negative to say about him and his job performance.

Perhaps he does not stroke the ego of all of the Dothan Commissioners as much as he should and some get butt hurt over that, but he has been truthful. And he attempts to get projects carried out and make Dothan better.

We wish him well and hope when his renewal contract comes up the Mayor and Associate Commissioners will re-new his contract. Because right now, Dothan has the RIGHT PEOPLE – RIGHT PLACE – RIGHT TIME to make Dothan a much better place.

THANK YOU to D1 Kevin Dorsey, D2 Aristotle Kirkland, D3 Bradley Bedwell, Mayor Mark Saliba, D4 John Ferguson, D5 Gantt Pierce, D6 David Crutchfield in your upcoming support in giving Dothan City Manager a new contract so we can continue the growth and pattern.

Dothan can not go through a new City Manager selection and the progress continue.
