The month of May is Small Business Month, and RSN is spotlighting those who deserve recognition during this special time.

One local small business that deserves recognition is The Butcher’s Daughter Bakeshop and Market located at 416 Glover Avenue in Enterprise.

The business is owned by Kristi and Derek Dye and is a grab-and-go and take-and-bake meal business that offers bakery items like cakes, cookies, and pies, specialty meats and cheeses, chicken salad, daily fresh salads, dips and appetizers, casseroles, and a full line of BBQ sauces and rubs. They are also a Primo Grill dealer and sell kitchen items and partyware.

Kristi sold cakes and bakery items for years and enjoyed it so much that she decided to open a bigger business to bring more options to her local community.

The Dyes hope to bring a great place to Enterprise where people can come in and grab home-cooked meals to enjoy around the table with family and friends.

Kristi said it took a lot of hard work and prayers along with a lot of long days and weekends to get the business started.

The advice she would give to people interested in starting a small business would be to do a lot of research and talk to others already in the industry their future business is in.

“Take a chance!” Kristi said.

Kristi, who is also a Wiregrass realtor, and Derek, who also works for M1 at Ft. Novosel have a passion for feeding people; they love to see the joy on people’s faces when they are eating something the two of them have spent time cooking and preparing.

She said her most popular item right now would be any of her sweets such as cakes, cookies, and pies.

They came up with the name of the business because her dad was a butcher her entire life.

“We tossed around a number of names that just didn’t feel right. I was on a walk one evening, and it hit me- The Butcher’s Daughter Bakeshop and Market,” Kristi said. “I sent a text to my husband and that was it!  We both loved it.”

The bakeshop and market will be opening up for the public in June although people can still order from Kristi before then.

Be sure to stop by and check them out! If you want a quick, home-cooked meal and do not feel like being in the kitchen, grab a casserole.  They will also have gift baskets and gift certificates available if you need a gift for another person or family.

As always- support your local small businesses!
