Dothan, Ala. – Southeast AlabamaWorks will hold its next Distribution Cluster Meeting, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. CST at the Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce, 102 Jamestown Blvd., Dothan.

The event will bring together people across the distribution, trucking and logistics industries to discuss new legislation Gov. Kay Ivey recently signed into law that lowers the age requirements to obtain a Class A CDL from 21 to 18 in the state of Alabama.

Southeast AlabamaWorks is proud to bring together truck drivers, insurance agents, trucking companies, logistic operations, training providers and other stakeholders to have an open dialogue about the legislation that goes into effect February 2020, and what it means for the industries involved.

The sponsors of HB479, Rep. Dexter Grimsley and Sen. Donnie Chesteen, will be in attendance to discuss the legislation. Elected officials will be joined by Mark Colson, Alabama Trucking Association President, and Logan Hooks, NFP commercial risk advisor for transportation.

“This is a great opportunity for people who have questions about this legislation to come together and start a conversation about how this will all shake out,” says Ryan Richards, Southeast AlabamaWorks director. “Our organization exists to serve business and industry, and we have talked with people who have questions about hiring and insuring drivers without experience. Creating an opportunity where concerns can be discussed will be valuable for our friends in the distribution industry.”

Southeast AlabamaWorks is the Regional Workforce Council, established by AlabamaWorks under the Alabama Department of Commerce, that serves a 10-county region in the southeastern part of the state and collaborates with business and industry to identify workforce challenges and deliver solutions.

Contact Katie Thomas to register and attend or to submit a question for discussion: [email protected] or (334) 268-0863.
