How Much Does Kelly Hurt like firing Southeast Health employees?  She just fired another one!

Tony Denkins was hired as the new HR director to replace Kecia Culp who was fired in March 2021. He was terminated by Kelly Hurt for alleged unsatisfactory performance. However, Tony Denkins never received any training to perform his job and was told he needed to take on other HR responsibilities not included in his job description in addition to running the HR dept. At the direction of Kelly Hurt, VP/CHRO, he was assigned all compensation responsibilities after Laura Bowen resigned to take another position in the hospital. Bowden left the compensation analyst role due to bullying. At the direction of Tanya Burt, newly promoted Talent Manager Director, Denkins was assigned sole responsibility for the annual performance evaluation. He was ordered to manage the annual performance evaluation process after Tanya Burt failed to complete it, got tired of it, and dumped it on him. Tanya Burt failed to manage the evaluation process in a timely manner and handed Tony a backlog list of more than 600 past due Southeast Health employee evaluations. She knew the evaluations were past due when she handed them over to Denkins. She intentionally disregarded Southeast Health’s performance evaluation policy. It is important to note that Southeast Health paid millions of dollars to purchase a human resource and payroll system from Workday. Part of the system was designed for running the annual performance evaluation process. However, Kelly Hurt and Tanya Burt made the decision to not use the Workday system selected by the administrative team, and instead decided to use a free online form builder and form creator to manage Southeast Health’s sensitive employee data. Why did Southeast Health spend millions of dollars to purchase the Workday system if it was not going to be used? Who approved Kelly Hurt and Tanya Burt using an unsecure, free, online form builder and form creator to administer the annual employee evaluation? This is unheard of and not something an experienced VP of HR/CHRO would approve or even consider.

We can only assume that Kelly Hurt and Tanya Burt decided to use the non-secure online form builder/form creator because they terminated or ran away most of the employees trained to use the Workday system or who knew how to run it. The trained employees no longer employed by Southeast Health served on the Workday leadership task force and in recruiting partner, HR partner, and talent partner roles running the new Workday system. These employees included Kecia Culp (former HR director, fired), Courtney Doby (former recruiter, resigned), Lisa Knight (former recruiter, fired), Laura Bowden (former compensation analyst, transferred to another department), and Cassandra Woods (former organizational development director, laid off) who were all trained to use Workday but are no longer with the organization. This gap in knowledge is the reason Kelly Hurt and Tanya Burt created a makeshift tool for the annual performance evaluation. This was done because neither Hurt or Burt know how to use the Workday system. Many months and hours were spent by IS, payroll, accounting, supply chain, and HR leaders and team members to design and test the new Workday system. So, Hurt and Burt cooked up a new, free, online performance evaluation system for Southeast Health managers to use. However, Tanya Burt refused to train Tony Denkins on how to use the free, online tool. Burt provided Denkins no guidance on Southeast Health’s performance evaluation or compensation policies or practices. Denkins was hired in July 2021. However, he had no compensation or Workday experience or training when hired. In fact, he was participating on a zoom call trying to learn about Workday when Kelly Hurt entered his office to terminate his employment. Hurt’s unprofessional termination of Denkins was overheard by others participating on the Workday zoom call. Tony Denkins was terminated by Kelly Hurt on October 12, 2021.

Kelly Hurt made the decision to hire Tony Denkins. He only lasted a short time in the organization. This another example of unacceptable employee turnover at Southeast Health. This also another example of Kelly Hurt’s poor leadership. And finally, this is another example of Southeast Health wasting $$$. Why did Southeast Health purchase the Workday system in the first place if Kelly Hurt was going to get rid of all HR team members who knew how to run the system? Houston County Healthcare Authority, are you reading this??? Are you going to continue allowing this type of behavior at Southeast Health??? The employees and staff at Southeast Health deserve better!
