GENEVA: On Monday evening the Geneva City Council met in a regular scheduled meeting.
When Geneva Mayor David Hayes called the meeting to order he was flanked by Taylor Mayor Billy Snell, Alabama State Senator Donnie Chesteen and Alabama State Representative Jeff Sorrells.
After the initial opening of the meeting the first item of business was hearing from Senior Citizens on the food provided.
The State of Alabama contacts with GA Foods to provide the meals at the Senior Citizens Centers. The seniors pay something like $ 2.00 of the $ 3.66 per meal.
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey's Cabinet member, Jean Brown, who is in charge of the meals was also on hand to hear the discussion. Also corporate representatives from the St. Petersburg Florida corporation were on hand to hear the comments about the food.
"Not fight for the dog, they refuse to eat it", "embarrassed when delivering the food", "mystery meat", these are a brief summary of the comments.
The GA Foods Corporate representative outlined when local management has been replaced, their Chef is on hand, and they have improved one half of one percent.
State Senator Donnie Chesteen, supported by Alabama State Representative Jeff Sorrells made is clear, crystal clear, clear as a football coach makes to his team ... GA FOODS this is your responsibility, improve and get it together, OR ELSE...
With that said, a short time will tell. Based on what was said in the packed meeting the time table for GA Foods is days, not weeks.
Geneva Mayor David Hayes, Taylor Mayor Billy Snell, State Senator Donnie Chesteen, State Representative Jeff Sorrells made it clear to the seniors, they have their ear and their commitment to immediate improvement or change.
