PONCE DE LEON - On January 11, 2022 deputies responded to the Big Boss store in Ponce de Leon about a suspicious person. While enroute the deputy learned that the individuals had broken into an employee’s car at the store and was attempting to take his wallet and other items.
The employee stated that he confronted the two individuals while they were pilfering inside his car and they left walking toward the rest area with an infant child.
The deputy was able to get a description of them and located them at the rest area. The two suspects gave false names to the deputy, however they were eventually identified as Johneshia Cook and Daniel Smith.
Both subjects were taken into custody and a search of Cook’s purse revealed ecstasy and marijuana in it. Both were charged with burglary, theft, giving false information, and contributing to delinquency of a minor. Cook also faces additional charges of possession of MDMA and possession of marijuana.
The Department of Children and Families responded and took custody of the infant child.
