Thanksgiving Morning Geneva County Wreck

GENEVA COUNTY:    This Thanksgiving morning at 10:19 AM the men and women who gave up their Thanksgiving day with their families in order to serve others in emergency situations had the unfortunate duty to serve in an emergency situation.

The first group who gave up their Thanksgiving day worked in the Geneva 911 Center. There these men and women were on hand for the 911 calls for emergencies. And at 10:19 AM the call came in there was a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 1200 block of Upton Road, or just north of Upton Road on Geneva County Road 9.

The second group who gave up their Thanksgiving day worked for Slocomb Fire - EMS. This group of men and women were on hand in Slocomb at the headquarters for Fire and Rescue for emergency service to others. The Slocomb Fire - EMS was dispatched by Geneva County 911 to thise two vehicle accident with injuries.

The third group who gave up their Tahnksgiving day worked with Slocomb Police Department. These men and women were on duty to serve and protect.

While I do not know all of the calls Slocomb Police responded to, in Dothan and Houston County some of the calls were mothers and daddys who are divorced arguing over the children. Not realizing they were making these childhood memories miserable for these children because two people who once were intimate and were able to make a baby that GOD blessed them with have in their plans to make each other miserable which in turn makes the child miserable for holidays.

But back to this call, the Slocomb Police Department responded to the accident to assist with the injuries and traffic.

The fourth group who gave up their Thanksgiving day with their families are the Malvern Volunteer Fireman. They were dispatched by Geneva County 911 to this accident to assist with the wreck.

The fifth group who gave up their Thanksgiving day with their families are the ALEA - Troopers. First the ALEA - Dispatcher who works in the ALEA Office in Dothan. She took the call from Geneva County and dispatched the ALEA Trooper to the accident. And then to the ALEA - Trooper who responded to investigate the accident.

There were two patients transported by Slocomb Fire - EMS, emergency, trauma alert. One patient was transported emergency to Flowers Hospital and one patient was transported emergency to Southeast Health.

The sixth group who gave up their Thanksgiving Day with their families are the nurses, doctors, receptionist at check in, those who clean the floors and beds, radiology, security, the one's with the needles ( ouch ), and everyone that it takes to make medical care work in the hospital.

And the seventh group who gave up their Thanksgiving Day with their families, those who work the wreckers to clean up the debris and wrecked vehicles.

This article is not meant to think this accident was taken lightly. It is written this way to say, while you see all of these elected servants ( none are officials ) who say what they did, they were all with their families on this Thanksgiving Day. But it was people described in these seven groups ( hope I did not miss any ) who worked their Thanksgiving Day in order to save lives and property.

These are the men and women who REALLY AND TRULY care in their hearts for people they do not even know. That give up their time off, not for the money, but because they have a calling to serve others through emergency service. And this emergency service operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Most work for wages like $ 11.00 an hour,        $ 440.00 a week on a 40 hour week, $ 22,880.00 a year, $ 1,906.66 a month.

And a Houston County Commissioner makes $ 33,000.00 a year plus $ 250.00 a month auto allowance ( $ 3,000.00 a year ), which totals $ 36,000.00 a year. And their meeting this past Monday was less than 45 minutes. The Thursday meeting and Monday meeting, combined, was less than two hours. And everyone of them were off Thanksgiving Day with their families.

All of this has nothing to do with this particular accident. But it is to make sure everyone understands, what it takes to operate emergency services, because you never know when something will happen. These fine people who had the unfortunate accident this morning, I swear to you, this was not on their list of planned activities for today.

In looking at a FACEBOOK Post earlier two in the accident are "alive, just banged upand a broken ankle. GOD was definetly with them". And from the looks of the vehicles, Rachel has it exactly right, " GOD WAS WITH THEM".

Jess and Cam, hope you do not mind me using your accident to explain who all gives up their holiday's, not just for a car wreck, but any emergency from granny getting sick to someone's house cathcing on fire. Praying for ya'll. Know your mom and love her, knew your dad and he was wonderful, knew Andrew, a great young man, and will never forget your grandaddy, GEORGE BRYAN HOMES on the Gene Reagan Show ...
