DOTHAN:   While he was not issued the oath of office until 10 AM, officially, William E. Benny, known as Will, became Dothan Police Chief.

At the recommendation of Dothan City Manager Kevin Cowper, Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba, Dothan Commissioners Kevin Dorsey, Janesky Fleming, Albert Kirkland, John Ferguson, Beth Kenward and David Crutchfield gave Will Benny a unanimous vote to be Dothan Police Chief.

Beginning in 1996 as a jail detention officer, Will Benny rose through the ranks of the police department. From detention officer, through Patrol division as an officer on the streets, moving in rank and various bureaus to include command of Criminal Investigation Division, Will Benny has worked his way through the department.

After reaching the rank of Captain and Steve Parrish was Chief of Police, it was several years before Chief Parrish made a promotion to Major. The day came when Parrish promoted Will Benny to Police Major, the second in command of the police department.

Today Will Benny moved to the Chief's Office. He will command a force of over 225 men and women of the Dothan Police Department. He will guide the men and women in the performance of their duties to defend and protect the Constitution of the United States of America and the State of Alabama.

Chief Will Benny is a down to earth person. While he will hold the title of " Chief " he is just Will. Here to serve and protect the citizens and guests of Dothan Alabama. Here to protect the men and women of the Dothan Police Department, but also here to make sure each and everyone does their job professionally.

Chief Benny will fight for each man and women to go home each and every day. Chief Benny will make opportunities available for the training and equipment for the men and women to serve the citizens, and protect themselves.

Chief Benny enjoys life. As you see he and his wife Shea love the water, fishing and hunting. So he does have life outside of work. But he has a commitment to the men and women of Dothan Police Department and the citizens that he will give 100 percent and then some.

Chief Will Benny, I am proud of you and what you have accomplished. It has been my honor to see you grow through the department to become the Chief of Police.

May GOD bless you and your family has you make this adjustment and serve the citizens.
