DOTHAN:    Seeing that Dothan wants another wage study, RSN is embarking on that venture.

Recently Dothan hired a new City Manager. He was given an extremely high salary to be the City Manager of Dothan Alabama. A google study reveals:

Chief Administrator Officer / City Manager $ 106,408.00

We went further in the study and looked at Personnel Directors. Surprised by the salary the National League of Cities reflects for a Personnel Director. 

Average salary Personnel Human Resources Director

$94,701 per year

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey is paid $115,950. That figure doesn’t include other benefits, however, including security, housing and travel expense.

Dothan Commission voted on March 19, 2019 to hire Kevin Cowper as Dothan City Manager.

The initial contract with the City of Dothan is paying Kevin Cowper $190,000 in base salary and another $700 per month in automobile benefits. The initial contract term is two years but does include two one-year extensions.

Dothan's 14 year City Manager Mike West had a Ford Explorer that was in great shape that belonged to the City of Dothan. For unknown reasons Dothan did something with the Ford Explorer and pays $ 700 a month auto allowance.

DOTHAN PERSONNEL DIRECTOR DELVIK McKAY

Dothan's Personnel Director is Delvick McKay. The Dothan Commission has zero say so on the Personnel Director of Dothan. That position is employed strictly by the 5 member Personnel Board who are appointed by the Citizen's Supervisory Committee. That committee is made up of members of Civic Clubs in Dothan.

The Personnel Board and Personnel Director do not answer to anyone, to include but not limited to their budget. They decide what law firm they want, how much salaries are, and an extreme amount of power.

So as "wise stewards of taxpayer dollars" and with the extreme amount of power and reign answerable to no one, the study needs to be expanded to abolish the 5 member Personnel Board and Personnel Director responsible to someone who is responsible to the citizens of Dothan.

McKay and Cowper have created issues on the salary increases of the Police and Fire. And someone needs to demand straight answers.

TIME FOR THE BIG FISH, WTVY-TV, WDHN, THE DOTHAN EAGLE TO GROW A SPINE

You know, rickeystokesnews.com is a minnow in the huge ocean. WTVY-TV 4 who has a self proclaimed "News Dean" in Ken Curtis, WDHN has a bulldog in Ben Stenfield, The Dothan Eagle has a good reporter in Jeremy. They are the big fish in the ocean.

However, they all appear to be spineless fish in the ocean. Because none of them have forced Dothan Mayor, Dothan City Manager, Dothan Personnel Director to answer about the December 31, 2018 public statement that a wage study had been done and now Dothan is going to do a wage study.

DOTHAN POLICE OFFICER AND FIREFIGHTER MAKES $ 154,000.00 A YEAR LESS THAN CITY MANAGER. WHO PLACES THEIR LIFE ON THE LINE EACH DAY?

The entity they like to point to such as National League of Cities reflects City Managers making $ 84,000.00 a year less then Dothan pays it's City Manager. In fact the Governor of the entire State of Alabama makes $ 75,000.00 a year LESS THAN Dothan's City Manager.

THE LADY AND ONE MAN ON THE COMMISSION ARE DOING WHAT IS RIGHT

Mayor Saliba and Dothan Commissioners ( Ferguson and Kenward excluded ), are you prepared to cut Kevin Cowper and Delvik McKay salaries?

It is time for you men to be men. Beth Kenward has more of a spine to do what is right  then the men on the commission. ( John Ferguson excluded from that statement ).

WITHOUT REGARD FOR HIS OWN LIFE, A LONE DOTHAN POLICE OFFICER CHASES DOWN A ONE MAN REIGN OF TERROR WITH ONLY A BULLET PROOF VEST FOR PROTECTION SHOULD A EXCHANGE OF GUNFIRE

The Dothan Police Officer that chased down the man who was a reign of terror on the City of Dothan did so without regard for his life but with regard for the men and women of Dothan and it's guests. In one hour a man robbed, shot at, kidnapped, stole cars, and took off in a high speed chase. The one man reign of terror struck a vehicle and killed a innocent man. After the crash the one man reign of terror fled from the wreck where he just killed a man, running on foot. The one man reign of terror attempted two cars to jerk the driver door open and kidnap more and steal their cars.

This lone Dothan Police Officer jumped from his police vehicle and on foot, only with his bullet proof vest on, literally ran this one man reign of terror down. The Dothan Police Officer had the suspect in front of Krystal Restaurant. The suspect's back was to the restaurant which had a lot of customers and a glass front, the lone Dothan Police Officer was faced off with the suspect.

If the suspect had fired on the officer, the only protection the officer had was his bullet proof vest, which was below his neck and above his waist. Nothing to get behind and a difficult shot if he had been required to use deadly physical force. Bullets do not always stop when they hit a person and should gunfire erupted someone else that was innocent possibly could have died.

This lone Dothan Police Officer, again, without regard of the fact if he would live or die, was not going to let this one man reign of terror hurt anyone else. This lone police officer, for $ 36,000.00 a year, $ 154,000.00 a year less then the Dothan City Manager, was willing to die for the safety of the citizens.

BTW - Delvik McKay is in the mid $ 130,000.00 to $ 145,000.00 a year salary.                ( ESTIMATED ).

Dothan Police and Dothan Fire, today's failure to take care of you is 100% the fault of Kevin Dorsey, Janesky Fleming, Albert Kirkland, Mark Saliba and David Crutchfield. They are where the buck stops.

Guess Former Commissioner Amoss Newsome slap has Ken scared of asking questions.  Ben Stenfield, Jeremy with The Dothan Eagle, time to get a spine and see the difference in the December 31, 2018 study and statement of the Mayor and the study they are doing and talking about now.
