Officers with the DeFuniak Springs Police have been working overtime to rid the streets of criminals. Chief James Hurley has been among the Officers working at various times, night and day, to catch criminals as they are committing crimes.

Early Monday morning, multiple individuals were prowling the streets of DeFuniak Springs with intentions of breaking the law. 30 year old Cornelle Donte Newsome was reported as possibly taking items from a local retailer. Officers were able to locate Newsome at a closed business and arrested him for Loitering and Prowling.

In a separate incident, Chief Hurley observed a suspicious vehicle on U.S. Hwy 331 S. that was being driven by 24 year old Caleb Wayne Jordan. Officers made contact with Jordan, who was asleep at the wheel in the middle of the road. An inventory of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine and marijuana. Jordan was arrested on the drug charges.

In yet another separate incident, Officers questioned a man suspiciously hanging around a local convenience store. A records check showed the man to have an active warrant out of Jackson County. 38 year old Donald Gene Castleberry was arrested on the warrant. During a search of his person, Castleberry was found to have oxycodone pills, alprazolam pills, and a straw that had drug residue. He was also charged with the drugs in addition to being held on the warrant.

All three suspects were transported and booked into the Walton County Jail. “We are serious about combatting crime and drugs in DeFuniak Springs,” said Chief Hurley.
