SELMA – The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Secretary Hal Taylor took the opportunity today, Dec. 3, to personally thank two members of the Legislature for making it possible to hold a third Trooper graduation since this past August.


 


Turning to two of ALEA’s special guests, Secretary Taylor said, “I want to thank Speaker of the House Mac McCutcheon and Rep. Wes Allen.  I appreciate your continued support and the funding you have made available to ALEA (for hiring and equipping additional Troopers). We have come a long way with your help.”



In fact, without support from Governor Kay Ivey and the Legislature, ALEA would not have held another Trooper graduation ceremony, this time wrapping up a full 22-week training for 24 members who were not certified already with the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission (APOSTC).


 


Trooper Class 2019-B graduated today at ALEA’s Alabama Criminal Justice Training Center, in Selma. During commencement, Rep. Allen, R-Ala. 89th District, addressed the class, as well as those gathered to celebrate the new Troopers’ accomplishments.



He pointed out two types of organizations – one languishes with little to no direction, and one thrives and excels under strong leadership. Everything rises and falls on leadership, he added.



“This morning, you will depart from this academy, and each one of you will be in a position of leadership and in a position to impact other people,” Rep. Allen said. “The question is: Are we going to lead, and are we going to impact others in a positive way?”


 


He then focused on three key qualities of a good leader: high expectations for oneself and others, courage and a servant’s heart.  Choosing such a career, the men and women who earn the position of ALEA Trooper choose to embrace these qualities and must work toward becoming the best leaders they can be.  “Never underestimate the impact you can make on others,” he said.
