DOTHAN: There is some controversy concerning trophies from Northview High School found outside at the dumpsters.
PLEASE PAUSE AND READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE
The heritage and history of what Northview High School means to the City of Dothan School system and the City of Dothan is important. What was accomplished in and through Northview High School from the beginning with Dr. Wallace Smith, the first Principal and the first football Coach, Harry Wayne Parrish means a lot to the school officials and citizens of this great city.
All of the Championship Trophies and associated items have been and continue to be on display in what was Northview High School and is now Dothan High School.
There were no championship trophies or main stream ( Rickey's words ) trophies placed outside. There was some miscommunication.
The trophies for places below ( not first place ) were taking up storage space and not on display.
Even before Northview High School became Dothan High School those trophies were not on display and placed in storage. The intent was cleaning up and cleaning out storage areas and not throwing away items of the history of Northview High School.
The miscommunications was the trophies were placed outside. The intent was to get with Northview High Schools first coach, Harry Wayne Parrish, for who to distribute those trophies to that would want them as keepsakes. That Coach Parrish would be the one who would best know who to distribute those trophies to.
There is not and never has been any intent to get rid of the trophies that represent what Northview High School accomplished, what the staff and kids in Northview High School accomplished and that demonstrates the great things accomplished during the years of Northview High School.
This has caused a FACEBOOK argument and outrage. But again, none of the trophies marking the history of Northview High School have been moved or displays taken down.
