TUSCALOOSA AL: Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox signed an executive order Wednesday establishing a city-wide curfew starting Friday night that will last at least a week.

“Its goal is to reduce social gatherings, especially among young people, in our community,” the mayor said at a press conference announcing the order.

The curfew, which will run daily from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., will be in effect starting Friday and stands through April 3. Maddox said the city would re-evaluate the policy when it ends.

There are some exceptions to the curfew but the mayor did not immediately say which residents or industries the policy won’t apply to.
