A call in reference to a suspicious vehicle June 16th ultimately led to the arrest of two teenagers in connection with two separate stolen cars. Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Shady Lane near Fort Walton Beach after getting a call of a black Nissan driving through the backyard of a nearby residence.
Once there, they spotted a silver Honda Accord with Georgia plates that had been reported stolen from a home on Devmor Court in Fort Walton Beach. The car was backed in at 704 Shady Lane Unit D. When deputies made contact at the residence they could smell the odor of marijuana. During the execution of a search warrant, 16-year old Jaquan Cypress was found in possession of a Georgia driver’s license belonging to the registered owner of the stolen vehicle.
Witnesses say Cypress was operating the stolen car on that date. Cypress is charged with burglary, grand theft of a motor vehicle, petty theft, and providing a false name to law enforcement. A second car, a black Nissan Altima reported stolen from a home on Gulf Shore Drive in Destin, was also at the Shady Lane residence. 15-year old Darius Wingate admitted to operating and being in possession of that car. He’s charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing.
