DOTHAN - HOUSTON COUNTY:   Houston County Sheriff Deputy Sgt. Adam Zey stopped a vehicle on East Main Street at the business next to the Houston County Jail.

Sgt. Zey in cooperation with the Houston County Jail Correctional Staff have suspects in what is believed to have been a possible attempt to break someone from the jail or smuggle narcotics into the jail.

Dothan Police backed up Sgt. Zey. Multiple other Houston County Sheriff Deputies rolled to the Houston County Jail. Webb Police Chief Jimmy Holley rolled to the Houston County Jail. The jail was quickly surrounded by law enforcement officers and the outer perimeter was secured on the streets surrounding the Houston County Jail.

Houston County Criminal Investigation Lieutenant Anthony Hatcher responded and is on the scene of the Houston County Jail. 

At this time the law enforcement officers and correctional officers are working to determine exactly what is going on.

Houston County Sheriff Major Bill Rafferty, Houston County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jeff Carlisle, Houston County Sheriff Jail Commander James Brazier and Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza are on the scene. Houston County Sheriff Patrol Commander Lt. Reichert is on the scene.

Houston County Sheriff K-9 and Dothan Police K-9 have tracked a suspect from East Main Street at the county jail through Dothan City Cemetery and to the southside of Columbia Highway. The combined law enforcement agencies are working information and leads at this time.

Houston County Sheriff Deputies and Dothan Police continue to investigate. The vehicle that Houston County Sheriff Deputy Sergeant Adam Zey stopped had illegal substances. Last known Houston County was attempting to confirm outstanding arrest warrants on the subject from another county. The subject was taken into custody by Houston County Sheriff Department.

The combined officers are at a location near the Houston County Jail where K-9 Officers following tracks lead them to. At this time the officers are investigating that lead.

We can not say for sure what the suspect(s) were up to. The Sheriff Deputies and Criminal Investigators are working that puzzle at this time.
