MALVERN:   With the title of "public official" does not bring forth a sudden surge of mental capacity to individuals. In fact often times public officials do not posses the mental capacity to hold the job.

Slocomb Fire and Rescue has done a great job putting together a professional organization in serving the citizens in the east end of Geneva County. They have been able to accomplish this because a three year SAFER grant provided money to pay people to work.

That grant expires at the end of this fiscal year, September 30.

They have requested additional funding from the Town of Malvern, Town of Slocomb and Geneva County.

For some unknown reason county officials, who by law have the obligation of EMS, turn to municipalities and non-profits to burden that expense.

While I was not present at the Malvern Town Council Meeting it has been reported that someone on that council made the comment they saw Slocomb Ambulance at Robert's Grocery in Taylor.

Well I saw a member of Malvern Town Council in Lowe's in Dothan. Why did that council member refuse to support Lowe's in Malvern? WAIT, Malvern does not have a Lowe's.

The last time I checked Malvern does not have a hospital. Do you want EMS to carry the patients to the vet in Malvern? NO.  So EMS has to carry patients to Geneva or Dothan.

What is between Slocomb and the Dothan hospitals? Robert's Grocery.

EMS are humans expected to be super humans in abnormal circumstances. But their stomach gets empty and their bowels have to move. A variety of reasons for them to stop at the store.

The EMS might have had a sudden bowel movement as they prepared to travel through Malvern thinking of the manure of the Town Council and had to stop!   Never know.

One EMS unit rode around for three hours with their lunch before they ever got to eat it because of calls. You see, emergencies do not plan. No one schedules a heart attack, stroke, fall, car wreck, trauma incident. A mere trip from Malvern Town Hall to the cemetery in Malvern, you will see damage in the cemetery from a drunk driver where he plowed into the cemetery. Was that a planned event? NO.

If the information is true that one of the elected officials made a stupid comment in the council meeting being critical of Slocomb, that official needs a reality check.

Anyone who knows me knows I support emergency services. Until my tenure with Emergency Management and I worked hand in hand with EMS and Fire, I did not realize the battles they face.

Think about it.... COVID-19... who are the people in the box confined with COVID patients? EMS ( ambulance ). Not fire, not law enforcement, not hospital.

EMS are the ones in the ambulance transporting these patients.

Who does all of the public officials give praise to on being on the front line of COVID-19? Law Enforcement and Fire. While they are and I take nothing from them, when do they ever mention EMS?

Think about it a minute... how are the patients transported to the hospital?

UPDATED @ 2:02 PM

In a conversation with Malvern Mayor Tom Vickers he confirmed discussion over Slocomb EMS. The Town of Malvern has funded Slocomb EMS in the amount of $ 5,000 per year.

This year Slocomb EMS has requested an additional $ 5,000.00 in support. The Town of Malvern is expected to increase the funding but probably not the full $ 10,000.00 requested.

The funding from the Town of Malvern is not for Slocomb Fire but for Slocomb EMS.
