COWARTS:    1:11 PM.  Houston County Sheriff 911 has dispatched Cowarts Fire to 860 Enon Road to a dump truck on Fire. Reports to Sheriff 911 reported flames visible under the cab of the truck.


Cowarts Volunteer Fire has a crew and is responding.

On the arrival of Cowarts Volunteer Fire - Chief Roger Nall reported the dump truck was fully involved and requested mutual aid assistance of Ashford Fire. Sheriff 911 has dispatched Ashford Fire to assist.

Cowarts Volunteer Fire just completed the scene and returning to the Cowarts Fire Station. BUT WAIT !!!   It is not over yet. 


Once the fireman return to the station, while it was not a great distance from the station to the scene, the firetruck has been running from 1:11 PM until 2:28 PM. First order of business check the fuel level of the fire engine and is it full. If not stop and fill the fuel level up.


Next order of business, is the truck full of water. If not then fill the tanks on the fire truck with water.


Next order of business, the fire hose(s) used to fight the fire are they back on the station and stacked in a position to lay a line into a fire from a fire hydrant. If not, reload the hose.


Next order of business, the air bottles the fireman use in a fire, did they use any on this vehicle fire. If they did, replace those bottles and place the empty bottles in a vehicle to carry and re-fill if Cowarts does not have their own air filling station at the station.


Next order of business. check the fire suits used. Do they need cleaning? Are they ready for use again?


The reason you do all of this? For the "911 call that has not happened yet".


SALARY COST FROM 911 CALL TO RETURN TO THE FIRE STATION:   ZERO DOLLARS.

Back the truck in the fire station, return home.


Oh...the Cowarts Fire Chief and those who responded, and Ashford Fireman who responded...return home and pick up where you left off on Sunday lunch, after you take a shower and put on fresh clothes. But put your food in the microwave over to warm it up.

In the city limits of Dothan, fire and EMS responds to over 14,000 calls a year. Dothan Fire has 175 employees, a support staff and a budget of $ 14 million dollars a year. Salaries and benefits eats up most of the budgeted amount.
