HOUSTON COUNTY:   4:12 PM  Houston County Sheriff 911 dispatched a single motor vehicle accident with injuries.

The accident location is 3944 County Road 203 near Helms Road intersection. Reports to emergency units by 911 power lines down, possible head injuries, and possible alcohol involved.

The first unit on the scene confirmed power lines were not down and possible entrapment. Alabama Power was requested to respond due to a broken power pole.

Rehobeth EMS and Fire responded. ALEA Trooper Jason McCallister was on the scene within seconds of dispatch. Houston County Sheriff Deputies responded to assist with traffic control.

Emergency units are treating the patient at this time.

ALEA Troopers are in charge of the investigation.

Remember at 4:12 PM when this call was originated? The first unit on the scene reported "possible power lines down, Alabama Power was needed".

Alabama Power has notified their estimated time of arrival on the scene to be one hour. That response is unacceptable.

But it is always with Alabama Power a issue to get immediate response. Amazing that a estimated time. Alabama Power is part of the company which sells Southern Linc radios and emergency services can not even get contact with Alabama Power via their own company communications system they rent service on.

Wiregrass Electric is the number 1 power vendor. Dothan is adequate,  Dothan Utilities staff is great.

But Alabama Power sucks every time.

The entire roadway is blocked. Two ALEA - Troopers, at least two Houston County Sheriff Deputies are on the scene as is Rebobeth Fire. Rehobeth EMS will be transporting the accident victim to a Dothan hosptial.

So four sworn law enforcement officers are stuck awaiting Alabama Power's sorry and uncalled for slow reponse time.

Rehobeth EMS has left the accident scene transporting the accident victim, emergency, to Southeast Health.

Houston County Sheriff 911 advised Rehobeth EMS that Southeast Health is on critical care patient diversion.

Rehobeth EMS reporter back, “copy, we are enroute to Southeast Health”.

After quickly assessing the scene it was determined the driver was NOT entrapped as first reported. The power lines turned out to be the guide wires that secure the pole that was shattered and held up by the power lines. Deputies have closed county 203 from Piney Grove to National Road due to low hanging lines across County 203.
