KINSEY:    BREAKING NEWS - We have learned that Kinsey Interim Police Chief Willie Powell resigned the police job in Kinsey. 

Attempts to contact Interim Police Chief Willie Powell resulted in no answer.

According to what RSN understands Interim Police Chief Willie Powell resigned on Monday. Last night at the Kinsey Town Council meeting a council member made a motion to terminate Powell and make Officer Jones the Interim Police Chief. That motion died from the lack of a second.

Kinsey Mayor Charles Douglas was absent from the meeting. Mayor Pro Tem Joe Watson chaired the meeting. Mayor Charles Douglas attempted to cancel the meeting on Tuesday but the majority of the council said no. It was said that Mayor Charles Douglas was sick.

There was no mention at Thursday evening's Kinsey Town Council meeting that Interim Police Chief Willie Powell had resigned. At the time of this writing it is unknown if Kinsey Mayor Pro Tem Joe Watson knew Powell had resigned from the Town of Kinsey at the Thursday night meeting. RSN does know 100% for sure it was not shared at the Thursday night meeting.

According to sources Kinsey Mayor Charles Douglas knew that Powell had resigned before the Thursday night meeting. 

CAN THE TOWN OF KINSEY LEGALLY OPERATE WITHOUT A POLICE CHIEF  

At the time of this writing RSN is attempting to find out if a police department can legally operate without someone named as Police Chief.

Last week someone called ALEA - Trooper Colonel Charles Ward requesting ALEA - Troopers to investigate motor vehicle accidents if no Kinsey Officer was on duty. ALEA Colonel Charles Ward confirmed the call and ALEA - Troopers would work motor vehicle accidents in Kinsey.

WHY ALL OF THE DRAMA IN KINSEY?  

The drama in Kinsey is because it is municipal election time. The current Mayor, Charles Douglas was defeated in the primary election. There is a run off between former Mayor Jason Reneau and Anthony White.

Information is being withheld from the Kinsey Town Council members. And some are butt hurt because the current Mayor was not re-elected.

When the former Police Chief, Scott Wilson, resigned to take a job with Houston County Sheriff Department it left the police chief job vacant. Kinsey Mayor Charles Douglas and Kinsey Councilman Joe Watson said they had to have a police chief. 

Mayor Douglas said he wanted to hire a interim police chief because it was not fair to hire someone and the new Mayor and Council not want that person as Police Chief. That was before the primary election.

Interim Police Chief Willie Powell was at one time the police chief in Daleville. He retired from the Retirement Systems of Alabama and can only make so much money from a agency which is also a member of RSA. That limited the number of hours a week Powell could work and it not affect his retirement benefits.

Some did not want Powell as Interim Police Chief. Then Mayor Charles Douglas, who is a lame duck mayor because he was beat, has not been cooperative with members of the Town Council because there is division because of the election.

Since Kinsey Interim Police Chief Willie Powell resigned and Kinsey Mayor Charles Douglas held that information from the members of the Kinsey Town Council and the Kinsey Police Officer, what should the members of the Kinsey Town Council do?

Some have said that Kinsey Police Officer Robert Jones, since he is the only Kinsey Police Officer, automatically becomes Interim Police Chief.

The Kinsey Town Council will have an emergency meeting on Monday and are expected to name Jones officially as Interim Police Chief.

Kinsey Mayor Pro Tem Joe Watson got the applications of who applied for Kinsey Police Chief weeks and weeks ago. But they do not need to rush and hire someone just to hire someone.

They need to shed their pamper diapers, grow up and be leaders, and name Officer Robert Jones as Interim Police Chief.

They need to take a lesson from the playbook of Ashford and strip the Mayor of his authority and take the reigns of the city and get it under control.

Reneau, when he served as Mayor for 12 years did not have this drama in Kinsey.
