COTTONWOOD:    3:01 PM   Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza and members of Houston County Sheriff Department, SRT Team and Cottonwood Police have the 12300 block of Cottonwood Road closed.

A subject has himself barricaded in a house.

Cottonwood Rescue is standing by. Not many details are known.

UPDATED @ 3:55 PM.  

From preliminary information Cottonwood Police Chief Tony Money responded to a domestic call. Shortly after arrival shots were fired.

The female was removed from the home and safe at a undisclosed location.

Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza and members of the SRT responded. The suspect is barricaded inside. Negotiations are on going.

Alabama Highway 53 ( Cottonwood Road ) is closed from Houston Street to Metcalf Street.

The ambulance is transporting one to the hospital. 

THE SUSPECT REFUSED TO DROP HIS WEAPON AS HE EXITED THE HOUSE

All officers are okay. No law enforcement officer is injured.

Cottonwood Rescue was escorted to the hospital with law enforcement in front and rear of the ambulance.

UPDATED @ 4:20 PM.  

Cottonwood Rescue requested Dothan Fire meet on Cottonwood Road with advanced life support due to a gunshot wound.

The subject shot was the suspect of the domestic call. NO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER was injured.

Details are not known at this time.

UPDATED @ 6:30 PM.  

The domestic relations issue of the person with the weapon is reported to have exited the residence armed. Despite repeated orders by law enforcement the subject forced law enforcement to deploy deadly physical force.

The subject was transported, emergency, with a paramedic on board, to a Dothan Hospital. Dothan Fire Paramedic Fire Engine intercepted Cottonwood Rescue at One Stop Foods on Cottonwood Road.

The subject was pronounced dead on arrival to Southeast Health.

Alabama State Bureau of Investigation will investigate the officer involved shooting.
