COVINGTON COUNTY: About two hours ago Covington County law enforcement officers have been called to the north end of Gantt Lake, near Simms Bridge, to a report of a body that has been found early today by duck hunters in the water. Opp Fire, Rescue and Divers are responding with their state-of-the-art dive boat that is routinely used for water recovery and rescue situations.

Covington County Sheriff Blake Turman releases information in reference to a body found floating in the Conecuh River at the north end of Gantt Lake near Simms Bridge Road

Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021 - 5:10 p.m.
On November 24, 2021, around 7:30 AM, local hunters were scouting the north end of Gantt Lake, north of Simms Bridge Road. The hunters observed a human body floating in the water next to the shoreline. The hunters notified the Covington County Sheriff’s Office and units responded. Opp Fire Department was dispatched to assist with the retrieval of the body.
The body, later identified as David Lee Brooks, 44, of Simms Bridge Road in Covington County, was recovered and taken to the Alabama Department of Forensics for investigation as to the cause of death. An investigation is currently ongoing.
